Poster Presentation Guidelines

Guidelines for Designing an Effective Poster

  1. Emphasize Graphs Over Tables: Replace dense tables with visually appealing graphs and charts that clearly communicate trends, patterns, and key findings. Use visuals to make data easier to understand and interpret.
  2. Keep Tables Simple: When tables are necessary, ensure they are concise, well-organized, and easy to read and navigate.
  3. Use Bold and Engaging Visuals: Incorporate simple, impactful graphics, illustrations, and diagrams to highlight important information and enhance the poster’s overall visual appeal.
  4. Minimize Acronyms and Complex Notation: Avoid excessive acronyms, technical jargon, and complicated mathematical expressions. Prioritize clear, accessible language that can be understood by a broad audience.
  5. Maintain Brevity: Keep the poster concise, informative, and engaging, ideally within 800 words. Focus on essential information rather than lengthy paragraphs or excessive details.
  6. Ensure Clear Organization: Divide the poster into well-defined sections, such as Introduction, Objectives, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Future Directions and Literature Cited .
  7. Choose an Appealing Color Palette: Use a vibrant yet harmonious combination of complementary colors to emphasize key information, establish visual hierarchy, and maintain a professional appearance.
  8. Prioritize Readability: Select clear fonts and appropriate font sizes to ensure that the poster can be comfortably read from a distance of approximately five feet.
  9. Include Future Directions: Highlight potential research opportunities, unanswered questions, and future investigations to encourage discussion and collaboration.
  10. Follow Standard Poster Dimensions: Design the poster using an approximately 1 m × 1 m layout, while adhering to any specific institutional or conference requirements.
  11. Highlight the Title and Author Information: Make the title, author names, affiliations, and key content sections prominent and visually accessible. Ensure that the title and essential information can be easily identified from a distance of 1–2 feet.
